The Lutheran Women’s Missionary League (LWML) voted at the Portland LWML Convention in June 2009 to use their Mite money to help fund mission projects throughout the nation and into the world. The LWML sent funds to five more of those mission projects in the amount of $220,000. “Hooray and praise the Lord!” exclaimed (past) LWML Vice President of Gospel Outreach Marilyn McClure. The grants included:

Body and Soul Care for Children in India $50,000
To provide residential care and education for downtrodden children at the Missouri Evangelical Lutheran India Mission School, body and soul caring programs for school drop-outs, and tsunami rehabilitation for women and children of India Evangelical Lutheran Church.

LCMS Prison Ministry Provides Devotional Materials $50,000
To provide 5,000 copies of Lutheran devotional materials to reach United States prison inmates desiring to know their Savior.

Lutheran Braille Workers Provide English Braille Bibles-Africa $50,000
To produce 13,700 volumes of Bibles for various age groups, so that blind people might come to faith by reading God’s Word and become ablaze with the desire to win souls for Christ on their continent of Africa.

Mission Support to Disabled Children- Dominican Republic $50,000
To assist in funding body and soul care for disabled children in the Dominican Republic.

Funds in the amount of $20,000 were dispersed to Native Leadership Scholarships for Students Enrolled in Ethic Immigrant Institute of Theology (EIIT) for a total of $50,000 given to this project, with a balance of $50,000 to be paid for this grant.

Since June 2009, the LWML has also distributed $710,750 for mission projects. Eight grants for the 2009-2011 biennium have received full payment.
