Dear Sisters in Christ, When Pittsburgh was selected
as the site for the 2013 LWML Convention, it seemed that preparations
were years away. However, immediately following the vote in Tampa members
of the various districts' LWML Board of Directors shared that we should
“Begin now raising funds for hosting in 2013!” The 2013 Coalition team from
Atlantic, Eastern, English, New England, New Jersey, and SELC districts
decided to join together in a major fund raising project: a printer
cartridge recycling effort Ready, Set, Recycle! This effort is
developed and organized by the firm M.L.C. Enterprises. The program
has been used successfully by Oklahoma and South Dakota in hosting recent
LWML conventions. It is also being used in Iowa East and Iowa West Districts
to host the 2015 LWML convention. The cost of hosting an LWML
Convention varies with each site. While we don't know what the exact
costs incurred will be, we do want to be responsible stewards so our
districts can stay “in the black” during this process. South Dakota
raised $17,000 for their convention which had 5,000 in attendance. We
can expect a good number in Pittsburgh, encouraging attendees to come
to the East, and Pittsburgh area has much to offer visitors. Fall rallies present a wonderful
kick-off point for this project. The materials in this packet are the
resources you will need to successfully implement “Ready, Set, Recycle!”
in your zones and societies. Please read them carefully and use them
to help everyone understand the possibilities to not only raise funds,
but also care for our environment. We share in the blessing of
being part of the greatest mission organization of our time: the Lutheran
Women's Missionary League! Our mission statement, pledge and everything
we do is aimed at our goal: “To bring the lost and the erring into
eternal fellowship with Him.” Conventions inspire, educate and motivate
us to carry out that great commission of our Lord. God will use the
2013 convention to make a difference in the faith life of thousands.
What an opportunity we have! Please begin now to pray that
God will place His hand of blessing on our efforts as Atlantic, Eastern,
English, New England, New Jersey, and SELC districts join in hosting
